Godly Play Montessori Sunday School

Godly Play is a method of Christian education and spiritual direction, based on the Montessori method, for children ages 2 through 11. The goal of Godly Play is to help children become more fully aware of the mystery of God’s presence in their lives.  Children already have a spiritual life of a depth that we may not understand.  Through Godly Play, they are given the gift of religious language that will enable them to express their spiritual experiences. 

In Godly Play, we tell Bible stories and teach sacraments using simple props to dramatize the story.  Children are encouraged to enter into the stories and relate them to their personal experiences.  A series of “wondering questions” are used to reflect on the story together.  Response time allows the children to express themselves through artwork of their choosing; retell the story or any other story in the classroom.  Following this is the Thanksgiving time and sharing of the feast, which corresponds to the Holy Communion time in the worship service.  A simple snack and water are shared and the children talk with the storyteller and each other about whatever is on their mind.  Each child receives a special blessing and goodbye from the storyteller as they leave.

Join us, starting on Sunday, September 7th at 10:50am music with guitar in the carpeted classroom, 11:00- 11:50  Godly Play in the adjoining classroom with the windows.   All children are welcome!
