You will find St. Timothy’s is a friendly church -- a true family, rich in the relationships that matter most. We are eager to know you, and include you in our community. You will be blessed by the mysterious ways God is working among us. Sunday Worship is at 9:30 a.m.
Our school has been in existence since 1956, providing education of children two to six-years-old. We strive to give children the opportunity to explore and learn through hands-on experiences in an environment that fosters independence and creativity. It is our belief that appropriate education received during these formative years is the most valuable education of a lifetime.
The Montessori philosophy, developed by Dr. Maria Montessori, offers an individual approach to teaching children.Through her observations of young children, Dr. Montessori felt children have an inner desire to learn and particular sensitivities at different ages and developmental stages of their lives. The love of learning and desire to become independent lead children through the world absorbing information like a “sponge.” As teachers and parents we must constantly provide information and activities to keep the sponge wet. In addition, they are encouraged to use their creativity and imagination to explore their relationship with God. STMS programs and classrooms are designed to promote active engagement of children. The teachers and assistant teachers provide lessons and role modeling that promotes social emotional and spiritual development of young children.
The teachers at St. Timothy’s Montessori School are trained from nationally recognized training programs in Montessori Education and the assistants are trained in Early Child Development Education. They understand the development of young children and support their natural curiosity and desire to learn by providing a rich, individualized learning environment that is challenging and instills a love of learning.
St. Timothy’s Montessori School is located in the Nob Hill area, in St. Timothy's Lutheran Church. We are on the corner of Jefferson and Copper. Our school has three classrooms: an early preschool classroom with two to three-year-olds, and two preschool/kindergarten classrooms with three- to six-years-olds.The early preschool has eight students, a head teacher, and an assistant teacher, offering a four-to-one ratio. The preschool/kindergarten classrooms have 24 children, a head teacher, and two assistant teachers, for an eight-to-one ratio.
St. Timothy's has an open-door policy with parents and we encourage involvement from them and other family members. Our school offers additional specialty classes such as music, movement, and art, which supplement our daily curriculum. The Pastor from St. Timothy's also visits our classrooms to provide stories, songs, and a spiritual element. All religious beliefs and backgrounds are respected.
