Montessori SchoolWelcome to St. Timothy’s Montessori School! Our school has been in existence since 1956 providing a program of education, which meets the needs of young children ages 2 1/2 to 6 and their families. We strive to do this by giving children the opportunity to explore and learn through “hands on” experiences in an environment that fosters independence and creativity. We believe that appropriate education received during these formative years is the most valuable education in the whole of a lifetime. The Montessori philosophy developed by Dr. Maria Montessori, offers an individual approach to teaching children. Through her observations of young children, she felt that children have an inner desire to learn and particular sensitivities at different ages and developmental stages of their life. The love of learning and desire to become independent, lead the child through the world absorbing information like a “sponge”. As teachers and parents we must constantly provide information and activities to keep the “sponge” moist. The teachers at St. Timothy’s Montessori School are trained from nationally recognized training programs in Montessori Education and the assistants are trained in Early Child Development Education. They understand the development of young children and support their natural curiosity and desire to learn by providing a rich, individualized learning environment that is challenging and instills a love of learning. St. Timothy’s Montessori School is located in the Nob Hill area, one block north of Central between San Mateo and Carlisle on the northwest corner of Jefferson and Copper. Our school has two classrooms, an Early Preschool classroom with ages 2 1/2 to 3 and a Preschool–Kindergarten classroom with ages 3 to 6. The Early Preschool has 8 students and a Head Teacher with an Assistant Teacher offering a 4 to 1 ratio. The Preschool-Kindergarten classroom has a Head Teacher, an Intern Teacher and an Assistant Teacher with 24 children offering an 8 to 1 ratio. St. Timothy's provides an “open door” policy with our parents and we encourage involvement from our parents and other family members. Our school offers additional Music, Spanish and Physical Education classes that supplement our daily curriculum as part of our program. The Pastor from St. Timothy’s Evangelical Lutheran Church visits our classrooms for weekly visits providing stories, songs and arts and crafts activities for our children. All religious beliefs and backgrounds of the children and their families are respected. Please feel free to arrange a visit to our school by calling 266-0099 or 255-8001, we are available Monday through Thursday from 9:00-2:00 pm. We look forward to meeting you and your child! Sincerely, Debby Mondragon
